Regarding course enrollment in the graduate major in Materials and Information Sciences

Students wishing to enroll in this major must undergo an eligibility screening prior to entering the doctoral program.
Only students who have passed the eligibility screening can select this graduate major when entering the doctoral program.
Applications for the eligibility screening can be made from the first year of the master’s program.

STEP2 Complete an application

Check the the guidelines.
Then complete and submit an application form with a letter of recommendation and consent by the application deadline.

<The eligibility screening>

Application eligibilityMaster’s students at Institute of Science Tokyo who meet the following criteria (1) and (2)
(1)Students who plan to enter the doctoral degree program at the Institute in or after September 2026.
(2)Students who plan to belong to one of the following departments during their doctoral studies.
Physics / Chemistry / Electrical and Electronic Engineering /Computer Science / Materials Science and Engineering / Chemical Science and Engineering / Life Science and Technology / Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering

Important: The academic supervisor of a student enrolling in this graduate major must be assigned as the major’s principal or secondary course instructor by the time of the student’s advancement to the doctoral degree program. If the student’s academic advisor is not in charge of this major at the time of application for the eligibility screening, the student should consult with the academic supervisor regarding whether the faculty member can be newly assigned as the primary or secondary instructor by the time of the doctoral course advancement assessment.

*This eligibility screening is for Science Tokyo master’s students wishing to advance to doctoral degree program. Students who master’s students wishing to advance to doctoral programs. For applicants from outside the university, a separate examination will be held in from July to August 2025.
For details, Please consult with your intended academic supervisor.
*We will post the guidelines and application forms for the Enrollment Examination on this page around October 2025.
